This unit organized in Precinct (or Beat) No. 2 of Lamar County Texas and filed muster roll and election returns on 5 Aug 1861. A copy of the muster roll is located in the Texas State Archives. It states the following:
"We the undersigned presiding officers of an election held in Beat No. 2 for Militia officers in said Beat, certify that for the office of Captain, J. J. Martin received 47 votes. For First Lieut. T. L. Click received 46 votes. For 1st Second Lieut., A. Johnson received 17 votes and L. D. Skidmore received 28 votes for 2nd Lieut. S. H. Neathery received 35 votes and J. M. Williams received 8 votes and L. W. Means received 46 votes for 1st Sergt. this August 5, 1861."
