This unit organized in Precinct (or Beat) No. 8 of Lamar County Texas and filed muster roll and election returns on 10 Aug 1861. No ages or year of birth appears on the muster roll and this information is derived from the 1860 Census. A copy of the muster roll is located in the Texas State Archives. It states the following:
At an election held in Precinct No. 8 at D. H. Davis store for the election of Military Officers after public notice being given the following is a list of the votes given the 10th day of August 1861.
For Captain, Wm. Gardner had 20 votes.
For 1st Lt., E. T. Wilson had 19 votes
For 2nd Lt., W. T. Young had 18 votes
For Junior 2nd Lt., P. W. Mason had 18 votes
For 1 Serg., W. J. Swain had 17 votes
For 2 Serg., W. H. Ledbetter had 18 votes
For 3 Serg., Robert Sikes had 18 votes
For 4 Serg., N. H. Burnett had 19 votes
We the undersigned do certify that the above is a true list of Statement of the Election held this day August 10th 1861.
