ca. 1855. Active in Paris, 1880. On the 1880 Lamar County census.
- John O. Austin - From Biographies of Western Photographers:
A Reference Guide to Photographers by Carl Mautz - Active in Bonham,
1856-57; advertised his services in Paris, Lamar County, and at McCown's
store, March 1856.
- J. P. Bergeron- From Pictorial Review of the City
of Paris and Lamar County Texas by F. Weber Benton and Edgar R.
Beach, St. Louis, Benton, Beach & Daniels - Listed as photographer in
1885.
- William J. Bonner- From Pictorial Review of the
City of Paris and Lamar County Texas by F. Weber Benton and Edgar
R. Beach, St. Louis, Benton, Beach & Daniels - Listed as photographer
in 1885.
- William M. Caldwell- From Biographies of Western
Photographers: A Reference Guide to Photographers by Carl Mautz -
Listed at 204 Bonham St. in 1891-92. He is listed in the Texas State
Gazetteer and Business Directory in Paris in 1892.
- Elgin Clark- (8/18/1906-11/25/1983) In his
obituary,
it states that he lived in Johntown (Red River County) until the 1940s
when they moved to Paris. He was a retired photographer.
- Crockett Brothers - From Biographies of Western
Photographers: A Reference Guide to Photographers by Carl Mautz -
Eli C. Crockett and William W. Crockett (q.v.). Listed in the
Texas State Gazetteer and Business Directory in Blossom in 1890-91
and 1892. They were listed in Clarksville
in 1896-97 and 1898. William W. Crockett is listed in Clarksville in 1892.
- M. V. Echols - From Biographies of Western Photographers:
A Reference Guide to Photographers by Carl Mautz - He is listed on the
Lamar County tax rolls in 1873.
- Leslie D. Evans, Evans Studio - From Leslie D. Evans'
obituary in 1938:
He was born at Union Grove community near Paris October 17, 1868, son
of the late A. B. Evans a pioneer of this section, and for fully 50
years had been in business as a photographer. However, other information
shows that Evans Studio was still in operation in 1955 as they are listed
as one of the photographers for the Paris High School Owl yearbook.
It may be that L. D.'s son, Thomas, continued the family business for
a while as his occupation is listed as photographer on his death certificate.
Thomas' place of residence was listed as Mesquite, TX at the time of
his death in 1967. The obituary
of L. D. Evans' daughter, Lois D. Evans Baugh states that she is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Evans of Paris, her father being the
founder and former owner of Evans photograhic studio here. She died

- G. N. Evry - From Biographies of Western Photographers:
A Reference Guide to Photographers by Carl Mautz - He is listed
on the 1875 Lamar County tax rolls. He is also listed on the 1900 Lamar
County census as living in Paris, and his occupation is listed as photographer.
A picture from Evans Studio is show here - it is the home
of Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Garrett, 526 Bonham Street.
- John W. Fawkes - From Biographies of Western Photographers:
A Reference Guide to Photographers by Carl Mautz - He is listed in the
Texas State Gazetteer and Business Directory in Paris 1890-91.
- L. A. Fulsom - From Biographies of Western Photographers:
A Reference Guide to Photographers by Carl Mautz - This may be G. A. Fulsom.
He is listed on the 1866, 1867 and 1870 Paris tax rolls.
- Garton's Studio - No other information is known. The
name is taken from a cabinet card of Goodland Indian School (Grant, OK) dated 1932.
- Laura Gore- Her name was taken from a recent photograph
that appears to be from the late 1800's. It stated, "Laura Gore, N.
W. Corner of the Square, Paris, Texas."
- Gurley Studios - No other information is known. The
name is taken from a cabinet card of an Indian knife-throwing act that
appears to be the early 1900's.
- George Hawkins - From Biographies of Western Photographers:
A Reference Guide to Photographers by Carl Mautz - He is listed on the
1873 Lamar County tax rolls.
- William H. Howe - From Biographies of Western Photographers:
A Reference Guide to Photographers by Carl Mautz - William was also a watchmaker
and was previously in Washington, D.C. He is listed as being in Paris and Clarksville
in the June 18, 1859 Northern Standard; in Clarksville in the July 4,
1859 Northern Standard; in Paris in the June 9, 1860 Northern
Standard; in Clarksville in the December 22, 1860 Northern
Standard; and in Clarksville in the January 19, 1861 Northern
Standard. However, he doesn't seem to appear on the 1860 census of either
Lamar or Red River county.
- Frank Hudson - Photographs are marked "Hudson, East Side Square,
Paris, Texas." From Biographies of Western Photographers: A Reference Guide to
Photographers by Carl Mautz - Frank Hudson was born in Alabama in 1865.
He was in Paris from at least 1893-1900. He is listed in the
Texas State Gazetteer and Business
Directory in Paris 1896-97. Ava Crofford lists him as being in Paris in
1898 and 1899. He is listed on the 1900 Lamar County Census with his wife,
Rivers. There is a picture of the lynching of Henry Smith where he is being
paraded around the public square in the Library of Congress, it is copyrighted
by Frank N. Hudson, 401 N. Main, Paris, Texas, 1893.
According to a family researcher, his name was Franklin Hudson
and he died in 1918, in Edinburgh, Scotland.
- Samuel Lynn - Samuel Lynn, who always used just S.
Lynn on his photographs, opened his first studio about 1870 in a rented
building at the SE corner of what is now Clarksville and 1st SE. He
later bought the east end of the block just across the street west.
He built a brick buillding on the corner lot (SW corner of the intersection),
leasing the lower floor and had his studio in the upper rooms, as was
the custom for photagraphers. Mr. Lynn was very active in the civic
affairs of the town. He was alderman many times. Mr. Lynn was still
listed at the same address in the city directory of 1892. He died 3
Dec 1903 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Paris. So ends the saga
of S. Lynn, Photographer. This information provided by Dennis R.

Guide to Photographers by Carl Mautz - Samuel Lynn was born in Ireland
c. 1835 [Tombstone states birth year as 1830.]. Listed in Marshall,
1867; Sulphur Springs, 1868; Paris, 1869-99; also listed in Lamar County,
1871-76.
- Manderfeld and Mertens - From Biographies of Western
Photographers: A Reference Guide to Photographers by Carl Mautz
- Partnership active in Paris, 1885; John L. Mertens.
- Roy Herman McCoin - (9/16/1910-3/19/1997) His
obituary
states that after his retirement in 1973 from owning Publishers
Engraving Company, he specialized in Wdding photography for 10 years.
- John L. Mertens - From Biographies of Western
Photographers: A Reference Guide to Photographers by Carl Mautz
- Born in Germany, 1848. Immigrated to U.S., 1849. Partner in Manderfeld
and Mertens in Paris, 1885; listed alone in Paris, 1890-92; Wolfe City,
1896-97, 1900. Also listed as Mertins.
- James N. Patterson - From Biographies of Western
Photographers: A Reference Guide to Photographers by Carl Mautz
- He is listed in the Texas State Gazetteer and Business Directory
in Paris 1896-97. A photograph lists his address as 200 N. Wall
St. in Paris. Ava Crofford lists him as being in Texarkana in 1899,
so he may have moved from the Paris area.
- L. A. Potter - From Biographies of Western Photographers:
A Reference Guide to Photographers by Carl Mautz - He was born in Kansas
in 1875 and is listed on the 1900 Lamar County census.
- George H. Pratt - He was born in Illinois in 1858.
He is listed in the Texas State Gazetteer and Business
Directory in Waxahachie 1896-97. He is on the 1900 Lamar County census.
He opened a studio in Paris, TX in 1909 and retired in 1936.

Benjamin Reed. He is listed on the 1871 Lamar County tax rolls.
- J. C. Root & Company - From Biographies of Western
Photographers: A Reference Guide to Photographers by Carl Mautz -
In the August 25, 1855 Clarksville Northern Standard, this firm which
was in Van Buren, Arkansas, advertised its intention to visit, Clarksville,
Paris, Bonham, Sherman, and Preston during the next few months.
- D. P. Simmons - From Biographies of Western Photographers:
A Reference Guide to Photographers by Carl Mautz - He apears on the 1871 tax
rolls for both Bowie and Lamar counties.
- Albert Arthur Steinheimer - Notes from the obituary of Ella K.
Steinheimer, A. A. was a long-time Paris photographer, who came to Paris about
1906. After his death in 1928, Mrs. Steinheimer continued his business until
the studio was destroyed by fire in the 1930s. According to Davis Parsons, the Steinheimer’s son, Albert Keeler Steinheimer married one of H. P. and Maggie Garrett’s grand-daughters.
In the 1919 Paris Directory, there is a listing for the Steinheimers Studio, both Albert Arthur and Ella K. Steinheimer are listed.
- G. M. Uni - From Biographies of Western Photographers:
A Reference Guide to Photographers by Carl Mautz - This is possibly
G. M. Ensi or G. M. Urie. He appears on the 1875 and 1876 Lamar County tax
rolls.
- Samuel S. Varnado, Photographer (1929-2012) - For over 60
years he worked as a professional photographer, operating studios throughout
Texas. William Hugh Rowland (1903-1994) worked for Sam Varnado as a
photographer for many years.
- B. F. Webb - Blossom - From Biographies of Western
Photographers: A Reference Guide to Photographers by Carl Mautz -
He was born ca 1850 in Tennessee. He was Reported to be in Jenny Lind,
Arkansas, in 1870. He is listed on the 1880 Lamar County census in Blossom.
