Samuel A. Jones (Confederate Veteran, Vol. XXI, No. 12, p. 597) was the son of John and Mary Jones. He was a Private, in Co. I, 32nd Texas Cavalry. He was born on 4 June 1832 in the City of Columbiana, Shelby Co., Alabama. He died 29 January 1913 of "Dilatation of Heart" (Alabama Death Certificate) and is buried in Mount Olive Church Cemetery, in the City of Opelika, Lee County, Alabama.

He married Margaret Missouri Slappey. She was born on 14 October 1842 in the county of Russell, Alabama. She died 20 November 1923, in the city of Opelika, Lee County, Alabama and is buried in the Mount Olive Church Cemetery.

Samuel and Margaret married 3 December 1867 in the city of Salem, Lee County, Alabama. It is not known if he received a Confederate Pension.

Children of Samuel and Margaret were:

1. Emma

2. Henrietta

3. John Fredrick Loman,

4. Eva

5. Virginia Ferrel

Samuel went to Texas in 1859; where and for what reason I have been unable to ascertain though I believe a relative may have encouraged him to leave Alabama. There he joined the 32nd Texas, was captured at Spanish Fort, Alabama and returned to his father's home after release from prison in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Samuel was a farmer in Lee County after the war and attended a Baptist Church.
